This couple came to KCA in desperate need of a new kitchen. Their existing kitchen was falling apart, with an oven that hadn’t worked for years and cupboard doors falling off. They loved their home in Ascot, but they were ready to trade in the air fryer and put their design stamp on the interior, which didn’t reflect their keen eye for design and social lifestyle.
When reviewing their existing kitchen, it was clear we could improve the layout. The peninsula layout cut the kitchen in two, interrupting the flow and resulting in an awkward space that didn’t suit their daily lives. With young children, we needed to create a family-friendly kitchen that they could grow into. We re-designed the kitchen to wrap around the room, placing a feature island in the centre with breakfast bar seating, which was a must as they love to host.
The couple have a keen eye for interior design and wanted to create a timeless kitchen that still suited their creative style. We chose shaker cabinetry, factory sprayed in a soft, neutral Limestone with a statement dark Racing Green island. A striking feature of this kitchen is the tongue and groove panelling, which ties the whole room together, starting on the island and tall cabinets and continuing with the complementary wall panelling they installed.
Apothecary-style Island
To give the shaker kitchen an updated look, we chose a shaker door which has no beading for a minimalist aesthetic. The contemporary touches continue with the modern matt black kitchen tap and the couple’s colourful, graphical artwork punctuating the dark green feature wall. The showpiece is the apothecary-style kitchen island with many drawers and antique bronze cup handles.
Bespoke Double Pantry
A pantry was high on the couple’s wish list to store breakfast cereals, crockery and spices. We designed a beautiful double pantry with an oak interior; the shelving and deep drawers offer practical storage while the oak surface creates additional worktop space with power for freestanding appliances. The pantry also features integrated LED lighting that turns on and off as the doors open and close.
Versatile Island Hub
We designed the hob against the wall, with the sink beneath the window for views of the garden. This allowed for a completely clear surface on the island, creating space for the family to use it however they would like, from food prep to drinks with friends or even games.
Every detail of this green shaker kitchen was designed for our clients, from the stylish colour and panelling to the discreet plug socket above the fridge for their Alexa. Designing this family’s kitchen and collaborating closely to create a cohesive room was a joy. It’s safe to say that they have put their stamp on their home, creating an uplifting, stylish and functional space where they can enjoy living as a family for many years.
