Sustainability Mission

Creating More Sustainable and Eco-Friendly Kitchens with KCA

As a conscientious brand striving for constant and never-ending improvement, we realise the importance of climate change and our responsibility to review and implement initiatives that can help make KCA greener. As an independent family business, our legacy relies on our ongoing dedication to integrating sustainability into every aspect of our business.

In our ongoing mission, we continue to implement sustainability initiatives, from energy efficiency and waste management to ethical furniture sourcing and carbon footprint reduction, with a commitment to continuous improvement and environmental responsibility.

Energy Efficiency & Usage

According to government statistics, nearly half of average business electricity usage occurs outside of standard operating hours. To reduce our energy consumption, we reduce our out-of-hours energy consumption by turning off office equipment, such as monitors and kitchen appliances, out of hours. To reduce our carbon footprint, our premises currently uses motion sensors and timers to reduce non-essential lighting when the team aren’t using the space.

Over the years, we have been upgrading our lighting to T5 LED tubes to reduce our energy consumption. Compared to the original T12 fluorescent lamps, T5 LED lighting tubes are 80% more efficient. Moreover, they do not contain any hazardous materials, making them an eco-friendly alternative to other lighting options.

Solar Efficiency

We understand the benefits of renewable energy and solar in reducing our carbon footprint. We have begun incorporating solar technology at our offices, including solar power for our gate lighting. With our future renovations, we look to extend solar usage to power our head office and showroom with the end goal of reaching net zero.

Waste Management

It’s estimated that the UK generated 33.9 million tonnes of commercial and industrial waste in 2021. Everyone involved in your project, from the builder to the fitter installing your kitchen, is responsible for ensuring waste goes to the right place.

At KCA, we ensure that 95% of the waste we create from your project is sorted and recycled. To ensure that waste is kept to a minimum, we consistently review waste quantities and look at processes to reduce waste further.

Paperless Working

KCA has been on a paperless journey since 2012. We have invested significantly in technology that enables us to manage and communicate projects at any scale whilst facilitating paperless working and efficient, sustainable communication.

As a company that produces marketing collateral for our clients, we have actively promoted digital copies over print versions where we can. When printed collateral is required, we work with a carbon-neutral print company, that allows us to specify exact quantities to eliminate waste.

As we pursue a greener future, we aim to use only recycled and sustainably sourced materials for all KCA collateral by 2025.

Supply Chain

At KCA, we believe it’s our responsibility to provide high-quality kitchens to our customers and do so in a sustainable and eco-friendly manner. In our constant search for improvement, we are collaborating with our partners to discover innovative ways to reduce our carbon footprint and achieve net zero emissions in the manufacturing of our kitchens. We only work with partners that share our sustainability goals which means working with companies dedicated to investing in renewable energy sources, optimising production processes, and minimising supply chain waste.

At KCA, we are firm believers that the most sustainable kitchen is one that is already made and fitted. For this reason, our KCA kitchens are designed to last for a lifetime of 20 years or more. As a company, we ensure that the kitchen is serviced for as long as possible, ensuring less waste goes to the landfill. We are proud to say that we are still servicing kitchens we designed and fitted when we started in 1993.

In our ongoing commitment to sustainability and ethical trading, we only use responsibly sourced furniture from suppliers that mainly produce in Europe, with a focus on fair manufacturing processes. Working with our furniture and appliance partners, we are already designing eco-friendly kitchens made from recycled materials and non-harmful chemicals. We are proud to say that our suppliers and partners are either carbon-neutral or qualified B Corp businesses. The wood-based materials are all PEFC and FSC-certified.

As we continue our sustainability mission, we continue to expand our partnerships with eco-friendly suppliers.

Packaging

At KCA we continuously work to reduce packaging and explore eco-friendly alternatives with our furniture and appliance partners.

Vehicle Fleet

In our efforts to reduce our carbon footprint, we have been progressing towards hybrid and electric vehicles. As of 2023, all the vehicles within the KCA organisation are hybrid or 100% electric. To promote the use of electric and hybrid cars, we have installed EV charging points at KCA for our staff and customers to use freely.

Green Energy

As a business, we are switching to a green, renewable business energy supplier. By using green energy, we are doing our part to reduce the use of fossil fuels.

Biodiversity at Our Showroom

According to the WWF data, the UK is one of the most nature-depleted countries in the world. At our showroom in Winkfield, we encourage wildflowers to grow. By allowing our native plants to flourish, we create biodiversity and a habitat for wildlife & insects. The natural flowers at our showroom help with pollination and support the ongoing health of the local plant life.

Supporting Local Businesses

For business decisions, we always favour independent local businesses where we can ensure stable supply chains and reduce our CO2 footprint from transportation.

Employee Training

As a business, we engage employees in sustainability initiatives and promote awareness and understanding of carbon footprint reduction. Where possible, we offer training programs for sustainable furniture and appliances in the quest for the perfect eco kitchen. We encourage employees to suggest ideas for improvement and foster a culture of environmental responsibility.

Our quest for sustainability is on-going and we are committed to advancing all areas of our business to work toward a more sustainable future for us and our clients.
