This modern kitchen was created for a newly built property in Berkshire, the personal home of a developer who had previously worked with KCA on residential projects. Over the years, quite a few builders have chosen us to design their own kitchens, and that’s always a real compliment. It reflects the trust they have in our products, our designs, and the way we approach creating kitchen spaces that just work day to day.
The clients came to us with a clear vision, drawing inspiration from the layout of their former kitchen. We reimagined their much-loved T-shaped island with larger proportions, refined finishes and greater functionality. It now serves as a bold centrepiece to the space. The kitchen island’s generous scale is layered with contrasting stone surfaces in varied thicknesses to add visual depth and definition.
One of the standout features is the integrated dining table. The surface material made from carbon-neutral ultra-compact porcelain is heat- and scratch-resistant. The perfect worktop choice for serving food straight from the oven, ideal for busy family dinners and casual hosting. The t-shaped island’s smoked mirror base gives the table a unique floating appearance, introducing a sense of lightness and another layer of texture to the palette.
The cabinetry is finished in a soft satin lacquer paired with a black handleless channel for a clean, contemporary feel. Built-in low-level seating enhances the room’s flexibility, offering moments for quiet coffee breaks, relaxed family meals or casual conversations throughout the day.
To deliver a minimalist and modern kitchen design, we kept the storage seamless and added fully integrated appliances to preserve the streamlined aesthetic. The steel-fronted refrigeration and a bank of built-in cooking appliances deliver both performance and understated elegance, chosen to reflect the premium yet neutral tone of the overall design.
As the clients plan to move on in future years, it was important that the kitchen felt timeless and widely appealing without being too safe or ordinary. By using a muted colour palette and focusing on layered materials and thoughtful details, we created a modern kitchen space that feels tailored, refined and future-proof.
