This kitchen was part of a whole house renovation, and a large ground-floor extension designed to create a sociable and functional space for a growing family. The homeowners purchased the property with a clear vision for transformation and moved quickly to bring their plans to life. They wanted a shaker style kitchen with a timeless yet modern aesthetic, ensuring it would remain practical and stylish for years to come.
Their design brief focused on creating a light and welcoming kitchen with ample storage and a bold colour accent to add personality. The clients wanted a layout that catered to busy family life, incorporating a sociable kitchen island, plenty of practical storage and a seamless connection to the surrounding living areas.

The clients opted for classic shaker cabinetry, creating a kitchen that balances practicality, style, and modern design elements. The wet zone along the back wall features the sink, dishwasher, and integrated bins, ensuring a streamlined and efficient clean-up process. The central island, with a downdraft hob, provides a dedicated prep space, allowing the family to interact and move freely in the kitchen.

We kept the space open and inviting in response to the client’s brief. The tall cabinetry, including oven housing, a large American fridge freezer, a provisions cabinet, and a pantry, were recessed along the right-hand wall to maintain an uncluttered entrance. An on-trend kitchen feature we used mirrored splashback that reflects natural light, making the kitchen feel brighter and more spacious while subtly bringing in views of the garden.

The shaker kitchen cabinets, engineered in Germany, were chosen for their blend of tradition and modern craftsmanship. The factory-finished light grey units keep the space fresh and bright, while the cobalt blue kitchen island adds a bold yet refined contrast. A furniture cornice softens the cabinetry’s edges, reinforcing the classic shaker kitchen look, while knurled brass knobs and brass back-fix handles bring warmth and texture.

For the worktops, we selected a 30mm hybrid surface made from premium natural minerals and recycled materials in Desert Silver polished with a double bevel edge. Known for its durability and subtle veining, this surface adds depth to the design without overpowering it. Meeting the family’s storage needs was a key priority, so we incorporated a provisions cabinet, pantry unit, and plenty of countertop space, keeping everyday essentials neatly organised. The statement cobalt blue kitchen island also includes breakfast bar seating, offering a versatile space for the children to eat, do homework, and for the family to gather throughout the day.
To further enhance the shaker kitchen doors, we framed them within studwork boxing, adding architectural interest and definition to the open-plan space.

This KCA kitchen was brought to life through close collaboration with the clients and Bee The Builder, ensuring every detail worked seamlessly within their newly extended home. The cobalt blue kitchen island makes a bold statement, while the classic shaker cabinetry and mirrored splashback enhance light and openness. Smart storage solutions keep the kitchen clutter-free, and the sociable layout makes it an inviting space for family life for years to come.
