For this London project, the homeowners wanted to redesign their Victorian home’s traditional, enclosed layout—seeking an open-plan kitchen that feels inviting, social, and perfect for modern family living.
As part of a complete property renovation in collaboration with Emily Howe Interiors and Hennerton Construction Ltd, the brief was to create a modern, opulent, and calming kitchen space that prioritises flow, functionality, and a curated sense of style.
A central design feature is the minimalist island with an asymmetrical staggered form that creates a stylish and contemporary statement. The clients wanted a place to perch and gather around the island, so we designed a streamlined, subtly extended overhang. This approach invites family and guests to casually gather without interrupting the flow of the space with barstools, allowing the island to feel more like a functional piece of art within the room.
The island worktops are Bianco Moon Rock quartzite, a luxury marble finish that delivers a refined aesthetic with low maintenance—ideal for a busy family home. The striking veining creates a strong, almost artistic statement with grey tones that pair perfectly with the cabinetry. A unique feature of the island is the integrated black oak shelving, which introduces a subtle display space ideal for displaying a curation of cherished personal items.
The design focuses on everyday functionality, featuring high-performance Miele appliances that make the kitchen routine easier while delivering the upscale quality this beautiful home deserves. Dark grey cabinets create a sleek contemporary look, while graphite oak adds a welcoming natural texture. The worktops are eco-friendly without compromising style, thanks to the lower crystalline silica content and recycled materials.
The redesigned open-plan layout fulfils the client’s vision for an open social space, allowing family and friends to gather comfortably while enjoying a seamless cooking and dining experience. The new kitchen blends style and functionality to give the family a well-organised, calming environment that feels good to spend time in. It’s a high-end, modern kitchen, but above all, a family kitchen.
