In the pursuit of transforming their arts & crafts property into their dream family home, our clients approached KCA following a referral from their interior designer, Rachel Cooper Interiors. The objective was to create a kitchen that marries timeless tradition with a statement aesthetic, complementing the property’s innate arts and crafts character whilst transforming the space into a beautiful family home for modern living.
Rachel, the interior designer on the project, created a harmonious palette with oat / beige tones and a statement blue for the island and coffee bar area. The colour palette complements the clients’ artwork, which they collected while travelling the world. To ensure the kitchen design honoured the character of the building, the clients opted for heritage in-frame shaker furniture with a contemporary factory-painted finish. The handles are a blend of traditional brass cups and knobs, which add a touch of tactile, timeless elegance.
The kitchen design features a traditional kitchen mantel, not just a functional element but an architectural statement, seamlessly incorporating the extractor and bespoke shelving for cooking oils. The mantel frames the client’s large range cooker for a quintessential classic kitchen look.
One of this kitchen’s highlights is the large statement island. The chunky stone worktops wrap around the island with a captivating waterfall edge, a contemporary twist on a traditional shaker design. The generous kitchen island allows for breakfast bar seating for six guests, offering a more casual place to perch for breakfast or coffee with friends. A sizable 10-seater dining table runs adjacent to the island for more formal dining, creating a visual symmetry.
Coffee Bar Station
The coffee bar is strategically placed within close reach of the dining table, so coffee can be enjoyed while taking in the garden views. The cabinets are the same statement blue as the island, with modern open shelving and a fabulous antique mirror splashback for a touch of luxury and drama. We designed the drinks zone as a self-contained space with a small sink, Quooker boiling water tap and a wine cooler. For a final statement, the bar alcove has downlights which cast a warm glow above the bar and showcase the glamorous mirror; a perfect backdrop for entertaining.
