A Timeless Two-Tone Shaker Kitchen in Virginia Water

KCA designed and installed furniture around the home of this house renovation in Berkshire for a couple and their older children. As a multi-room project, this included a beautiful modern shaker kitchen, a stylish and practical utility room and tailored fitted wardrobes for all bedrooms.

The clients briefed their KCA designer to create timeless, understated and uncomplicated furniture designs emphasising quality. As a multi-room project, the clients benefited from the added value of using KCA as their sole supplier for all of their fitted furniture needs, maximising what they could achieve with their budget and making the design and installation process simpler and more enjoyable.

The Kitchen

The KCA kitchen is a contemporary interpretation of a classic shaker kitchen.

The kitchen has all the hallmarks of handcrafted English furniture, featuring in-frame doors with chamfered edges and an ovolo bead door detail. The cabinet interior is just as striking, featuring dovetailed, solid oak drawer boxes finished in a hardwearing oak textured carcass.

The design utilises enduring neutral tones that create a light and airy family space that will stand the test of time. Traditional elements are pared back for a more modern and clean shaker look.

The painted kitchen cabinetry is Farrow & Ball Skimming Stone, complemented by 30mm thick Silestone Lusso worktops in an off-white finish with subtle veining. The worktops are polished with a single pencil edge detail and matching upstands.

The design features a large kitchen island, perfect for food prep, entertaining and casual dining. The classic style kitchen mantel above the hob houses the Falmec Gruppo Incasso extractor and creates a striking focal point. The sink area has been designed with a large single farmhouse sink and minimalist chrome tap, further mixing old and new styles.

For cooking functionality, the kitchen is equipped with Siemens appliances including two eye-level fan assisted ovens and a Bosch warming drawer.

The Utility Room

The utility room in this project comes equipped with a mixture of flexible storage, including multiple larder cupboards, broom storage and mixed height drawers. The utility is designed to complement the kitchen design but with adjustments to the materials and cabinetry to meet the durability required from this hard-working space. The cabinetry features lay-on shaker doors with oak carcasses. Like most utility rooms, the design features a separate sink perfect for laundry or cleaning muddy boots.

The utility room also features a stacked Miele washer and dryer and an additional utility room fridge. The vast utility room also has space for a small, industrial style boot area beside the direct entrance to the garden, the perfect place to remove and store coats and wellingtons.

The Bedrooms

Each bedroom features bespoke fitted wardrobes in a bright, neutral colour scheme. The designs blend seamlessly into the rooms to complement the architecture and maximise the practical storage in all the bedrooms. The furniture features a mixture of hanging space, shelves and drawers so our clients’ wardrobes can be effortlessly organised.
