An Olive Green and Taupe Kitchen Redesign

After 15 years in their family home, the owners decided it was time for a change. Their kitchen had served them well, but they wanted a more open space, that was brighter, modern and better suited to their current lifestyle. They came to the design consultation with their initial ideas sketched out, and we worked together to make smart changes that would make a big difference.

The goal was to keep the general layout they liked but improve some everyday issues that had cropped up over time. The new design tackled key problems, like the tight space around the breakfast bar and the lack of natural light.

To solve the problem around the breakfast bar, we shifted its position, creating a more open and spacious feel that made moving between the kitchen, dining, and living areas much easier. These adjustments not only improved how the kitchen worked but also gave it a lighter, more relaxed atmosphere.

The old kitchen sink wasn’t suitable for larger cookware so we replaced the double bowl sink with a larger 700 mm-wide sink, perfect for the task. With the new kitchen design, we upgraded the range cooker to a suite of the latest Neff appliances, including an induction hob, built-in oven, and combination microwave. This kitchen goes beyond just cooking; it’s designed for creating moments. That’s why we added a wine cooler—to keep the drinks chilled and the conversations flowing.

One of the main focuses was to brighten up the room. The dark worktops made the old kitchen feel gloomy, so we chose a softly veined white quartz in Calacatta Amber to reflect light and give the kitchen a fresh, clean look. The cabinetry in olive green and soft taupe adds a pop of colour, which ties in nicely with the garden’s greenery outside. Wooden accents and bronze handles help balance the modern look with a warm, welcoming feel.

We also added open shelving and a custom sideboard in the dining area to tie everything together. This made for a smooth flow from cooking to eating and provided some extra storage that looks great too.

The new kitchen design reshapes the space, blending modern style with practical features perfectly tailored to the client’s everyday routines.
