A Modern Asymmetrical Kitchen & Utility

This elegant, modern, asymmetrical kitchen and utility room was part of an extensive home renovation for two sisters in Farnham Common.

The old white kitchen didn’t reflect their fun and flamboyant style and was out of place in the sister’s quirky and super-fun home. They came to KCA as they wanted their space to be designed with specifications and details you couldn’t get by going to your usual high street kitchen supplier.

The new kitchen needed to be a space where the sisters could both work, bake and entertain their guests. Like other rooms in the home, the design also needed to reflect their styles which required working with a designer to create a scheme that no one else had.

During the design process, the sisters were given access to KCA’s vast library of materials and suppliers, exploring several unusual palettes before landing on a refined monochromatic palette full of dark and moody sophistication. We opted for a two-tone scheme for the kitchen, combining satin lacquer and putty concrete graphite laminate. The smoked mirror splashback adds opulence while enhancing the feeling of space and cleverly boxing in and hiding the soil pipe. The Silestone Marengo worktop in the dark muted grey pairs beautifully with the dark cabinetry.

This modern and edgy kitchen design plays with asymmetry to break up the order and predictability of space, creating a kitchen design that feels unique and quirky. Intersecting cabinetry in the island and oven zones creates interesting lines, resulting in a design that feels unpredictable yet coherent and curated. The island features a combination of Spekva PRIMA Heart Ash for the breakfast bar and Dekton Bergen ceramic worktops in a waterfall design, with intersecting cabinetry and a display shelf for recipe books.

To enable the sisters to cook together comfortably, a Miele warming drawer is positioned on the island, separated from the bank of Miele ovens. The island also features a second sink with a tap that can be hidden in the worktop.

We designed a tall display cabinet with smoked mirrors and glass shelving to offer room for personalisation.

The Utility Room

The utility room off the main kitchen follows the design cues from the main kitchen design using the Silestone Marengo worktop and the same-coloured door but in a more tactile laminate finish. The utility room features an additional sink, Miele washer/dryer and open shelving for glassware.
