When the clients approached KCA, they were looking for more than just a new kitchen—they wanted a space that would transform their family home and elevate their daily lives. With a vision for a modern, open-plan area that seamlessly connected cooking, dining, and living, they needed a design to accommodate the busy rhythm of family life while providing a stylish and welcoming environment. To achieve this, they carried out a complete refurbishment and extension to improve and increase the ground floor. The KCA design team worked from the architect’s plans and collaborated closely with the client to bring their vision to life, designing a new multifunctional space where the whole family could come together and enjoy everyday moments.
At the heart of this modern kitchen is a generously sized island featuring an induction venting hob and cleverly integrated drawer storage. Having the hob on the island creates a sociable layout so our clients can cook and socialise simultaneously, ensuring no one misses out. The island’s unique staggered breakfast bar invites family members to gather for meals, casual conversations, or homework sessions, making it an ideal spot for connection and daily activity.
The clients have a large family, so the kitchen offers ample storage throughout. A floor-to-ceiling bank of cabinets provides abundant, easily accessible storage, keeping countertops clutter-free and small appliances neatly tucked away. A custom larder and additional pantry ensure that every item has its place, maintaining the sleek, minimalist look that our clients love. Built-in appliances, including two Siemens ovens and an American fridge freezer, break up the run of cabinets.
Natural light floods the space thanks to bi-fold doors and low-level cabinetry beneath a panoramic picture window that frames uninterrupted views of the garden. These features connect the kitchen to the garden and infuse the room with warmth and a sense of openness. The bifold doors near the central island allow the kitchen to open to the garden on warmer days for entertaining or simply enjoying family time in the fresh air. A wine cooler near the garden entrance makes serving refreshments during summer barbecues or casual get-togethers easy, enhancing the flow between indoor and outdoor living.
Dark grey cabinets create a sleek contemporary look, while graphite oak adds a welcoming natural texture. The worktops are eco-friendly without compromising style, thanks to the lower crystalline silica content and recycled materials.
For a touch of wow factor, the kitchen features integrated accent lighting, including the handleless rails on the island, the tall cabinets and beneath the floating shelves. These adjustable LED lights allow our clients to customise the lighting to suit any occasion, effortlessly transitioning the space from a bright, functional area during the day to a cosy, intimate setting at night.
This KCA kitchen goes beyond a renovation—it reimagines what a family kitchen can be. By combining smart storage solutions, a multifunctional layout, and high-quality finishes, the design creates a stylish living space where cooking, dining, and making memories happen effortlessly every day.
