A plot of two custom-built homes in Virginia Water, Surrey. The development was the culmination of a father’s dream to provide and create two new family homes for each of his children. The father had worked with KCA in the past, and the family appointed us to design and install the kitchen and utility spaces. KCA was uniquely qualified to carry out this project, given our experience working with builders on speculative developments and directly with homeowners.
A trade development with two different end clients, the brief was to tailor the kitchen designs to each family’s needs and design preferences. Collaborating with the Griffiths & Gough family and their builders, we helped create two new stylish family homes.
Plot 1 - A Modern Kitchen Space with Warm Textured Details
The brief for Plot 1 was to create a modern kitchen space with plenty of texture and details.
A kitchen space was designed to cater to an avid sports enthusiast. The end-client wanted a dedicated area where friends could unwind and catch up on the latest games without disrupting family activities in the kitchen.
Tailoring the kitchen to suit the Griffith family’s unique style, we designed a peninsular layout with an integrated media area, dividing the space while offering bar seating for those keeping an eye on kitchen activities. A stepped ceiling box was added for pendant lights, matching the peninsula’s size and form.We incorporated top boxes for extra storage in the tall cabinetry run to make full use of the property’s high ceilings. We installed bulkheads to integrate the furniture seamlessly into the room’s architecture.
Natural light floods in through skylights and bi-fold doors, amplified by a large splashback mirror that reflects light and extends to the furniture surrounds, complementing the warm textured palette. Key design elements like satin lacquer cabinetry with a timber effect finish and bronze bar handles add depth and sophistication. Material selection ensures durability and elegance, with Dekton for the TV surround, Silestone for worktops, and natural timber for the breakfast bar. The result is a contemporary, tactile, and functional kitchen space that combines modern furniture with warm, organic textures.
Plot 2 - A Luxurious Social Kitchen Design With a Raised Dining Area and Bar
For the second plot, the Gough family wanted a social kitchen space to host guests and larger gatherings. The brief was to create a modern kitchen design with an open-plan layout. A place for entertaining, it needed to seamlessly connect the kitchen, adjacent TV snug, and dining area with a dedicated bar. With impressive 3m high ceilings, the clients wanted a modern space with classic luxury design cues.
Initially considering a peninsular layout similar to plot 1, we adjusted the design to feature a long linear island, better suiting what the clients needed from the space. The kitchen island design is better suited for entertaining, enhancing space for guests, and improving flow between areas. To complement the tall ceilings, bulkheads were added above the cabinetry, seamlessly integrating the furniture, and ensuring cleanliness. The design includes a raised dining and bar area, tying the spaces together with the fitted furniture design and palette. The bar features a wine cooler, open shelving, and a striking bronze-coated panel.
Where Plot 1 focuses on natural textures, plot 2 focuses on design materials that add a sense of luxury. The German furniture in rich black oak pairs with luxury bronze accents, adding warmth and personalisation. Bronze mirror panels reflect the dining area, allowing the chef to stay connected with guests.
We were deeply honoured to be part of this special project—a development born from a father’s hard work, a family’s dream, and collaboration from all trades involved.
