A sleek, modern renovation transforms this recently purchased home into a refined yet practical living space. The family came to KCA after being recommended by an interior designer to reimagine the kitchen and utility room as part of their broader home transformation.

Our design maximises layout potential while keeping the space light and inviting. In response to the room’s long, distinctive shape, we skilfully balanced heavy and light elements. Tall wall units—housing integrated appliances such as a fridge, freezer, full-height ovens (one with a microwave) and deep warming drawers—are strategically positioned in the darker entrance area to remain unobtrusive. At the same time, lighter finishes brighten the overall space.

In the wet area, a dedicated zone for the dishwasher, sink, and bin unit ensures efficient clearing. In contrast, a mirror splashback behind the sink reflects natural light to create the illusion of extra space. Open shelving overhead further prevents the wall from feeling heavy, keeping the space feeling open.

The bold split island is the true centrepiece of this modern kitchen. Spanning the full length of the room, it offers wide practical drawers, a five-zone gas hob with a downdraft extractor, and ample additional storage.
This unique split island is defined by a sleek black column which cleverly separate the breakfast bar seating from the main prep areas while discreetly housing essential power points. To enhance both comfort and visual contrast, the breakfast bar is slightly elevated and finished in a tactile oak, giving it the inviting feel of a dining table.
Further enhancing the design, a hidden wine fridge and integrated breakfast bar seating create a dedicated zone for socialising. The unique island design is seamlessly tied together with matching black handleless channel rails and plinth details, ensuring a sleek and contemporary finish.

The kitchen cabinetry combines modern finishes, blending white, oak, and concrete with stylish black accents. The cabinets and worktops incorporate a mix of materials, creating a dynamic and layered design. The main worktops are made from carbon-neutral ultra-compact porcelain in a textured beige finish, which pairs perfectly with the warmth of the oak breakfast bar and the industrial appeal of the concrete cabinets. The striking bronze mirror adds a touch of sophistication to the palette for a fresh, trendy, and contemporary feel.

This kitchen transformation by the designers at KCA shows how blending innovative design and practical solutions can create kitchens that are both visually striking and highly functional.
