KCA transformed this family home by reimagining its kitchen and utility room into modern, functional spaces designed for everyday living. The clients, a family of four, wanted to move away from the awkward layout of their existing kitchen and utility area. They envisioned a sleek, modern kitchen design that was both practical and sociable—a place where the family could gather, cook, and entertain guests.
The existing space presented challenges with a long, narrow galley kitchen and an adjoining conservatory that felt disjointed and cramped. To address this, the opening between the kitchen and conservatory was widened, creating a seamless connection between the two areas and allowing natural light to flow freely. The kitchen cabinets were thoughtfully extended around the corner into the conservatory, transforming underutilised space into additional worktop space and smart storage for books, toys, and daily essentials.
The redesign focused on creating a sociable kitchen layout without increasing the space’s footprint. The improved layout includes generous preparation areas for cooking and easy access to utensils, cookware, and ingredients. A central breakfast bar kitchen design replaced the awkward dining table, providing a versatile spot for casual seating—perfect for enjoying a drink, helping with homework, or entertaining friends. This simple yet effective addition enhances the room’s functionality and flow.
To further improve usability, the fridge was positioned for optimal access to fresh ingredients, while the hob, ovens, and sink were carefully aligned to streamline the cooking process. Kitchen storage solutions such as deep drawers, wall units, and extended cabinetry ensure the space remains organised and clutter-free.
The addition of carbon-neutral porcelain worktops offers durability, heat resistance, and a sleek finish—perfect for the demands of a busy family kitchen. A bespoke coffee station cleverly repurposes the old chimney breast, turning previously wasted space into a convenient, organised area for coffee essentials.
To brighten the room and enhance the sense of openness, a mirror splashback kitchen reflects light throughout the galley layout, making the space feel larger and more airy.
Utility Room
In the adjoining utility room, integrated laundry appliances and tall storage cabinets simplify daily tasks, complementing the kitchen’s functionality while maintaining a cohesive, modern look.
This project exemplifies KCA’s expertise in transforming awkward layouts into bespoke, family-friendly kitchens that prioritise style, efficiency, and usability. The result is a reimagined home where every inch of space has been optimised, creating a connected, inviting environment for family life and entertaining.
