This KCA kitchen was designed with our trade partner WK Architecture. Our clients renovated their kitchen over 20 years ago and were looking for a new kitchen design and utility space tailor-made to their current lifestyle.
Designing for a lovely family home in Hampton, the brief was to create a timeless, quality kitchen in a modern style that still feels homely. The clients, along with their architects, came to us with a clear direction for the design, looking to use our 30 years of experience in kitchen design to deliver on their ambitious design ideas.
We worked collaboratively with WK Architecture to deliver on this design’s technical elements, including a secret kitchen doorway through to the utility room. The client’s brief also stipulated a dedicated space for their dog Dizzee, a utility room drying cupboard with a built-in heater, and a space to store their prized coffee machine. In terms of style and finish, the clients wanted a modern handleless design in a dark contemporary palette. We curated a modern palette with tactile and warm materials that felt balanced to ensure the space wouldn’t feel clinical or cold.
The kitchen features modern handleless cabinetry finished in a combination of opal grey, graphite putty concrete, and sand vintage oak, topped with a hardwearing 20mm Silestone Arial worktop. The wood elements against the opal grey concrete doors create a sense of warmth, helping to make the space feel more inviting and homely. As with all KCA projects, the design features the latest appliances, this time from our partners Fisher & Paykel, Neff, Barazza and Quooker.
One of the critical design features of this KCA kitchen is the hidden utility space. We created the secret doorway with a wall of tall pantry units. One of the cabinets provided the perfect space for the coffee machine in the form of a breakfast cupboard, and the other a secret door into the utility.
Hidden Utility Room
The utility room features hardwearing engineered materials in a complementary palette to the kitchen. The utility design offers plenty of worktop space, an additional sink, and laundry appliances. When creating the client’s desired drying cupboard, we specified slatted shelving to allow the heat to flow and an integrated plug to incorporate the heater.
