KCA Wins 5 Star Award for Best Kitchen Design, South East England
We are delighted to announce that KCA is the winner of the United Kingdom Property award for ‘Best Kitchen Design South East England’ 2019. We were presented with our award on the evening of the 25th October 2019 at the Royal Lancaster Hotel London, receiving the highest level 5 Star Award and an International Nomination for Kitchen Design United Kingdom.
This design has also been shortlisted for the ‘Living Space Design of the Year Award’ in the Designer Kitchen and Bathroom Awards. The objective of these awards is to recognise excellence and maintain high standards in the property industry worldwide, so as a family-run company, we’re honoured to have been chosen.
A little more about this winning project…
Collaborating with EAB Homes and Alexander James Interiors we collaborated to create an industrial style kitchen for a project in Beaconsfield. Our brief was to balance on-trend style with timeless design in order to create an inviting family space that complements the style and features of the new build property.
The kitchen design uses several different finishes that blend nicely with the materials and existing tones of the property. Dark concrete effect furniture complements the black Crittall style windows, whilst the grey oak and light grey lacquer cabinetry pairs perfectly with the light textured quartz worktops and stainless-steel accents. Due to the overall size of the kitchen area, we opted for a more eclectic approach to the design, using a combination of knurled stainless-steel bar handles and handless cabinetry.
In our approach to the layout of the kitchen, the first detail that we needed to factor was the structural pier. We overcame this by designing a studwork boxing to create an alcove for the refrigeration appliances and then extended this into the back wall to create a further alcove for glazed feature units with a back-lit frame offering a visual impact. This studwork gave the kitchen the feeling of being part of the architecture of the room, rather than a free-standing solution.
To add to the industrial style, we incorporated several stainless-steel accents. This included the Gaggenau VarioCool refrigeration and, in particular the 80mm thick ‘L’ shaped worktop on the island. This created a floating bridge linking the two runs of furniture to give the user accessibility from the prep sink onto a large expanse of worktop for food preparation and serving, and onto the induction hob. This is similar to a drummer on his stool with sweeping access to all of his drums, making this space a joy for the chef.
The social seating on the perimeter overlooks the beautiful garden. Within the living space, complementary coffee and wine areas were designed to add a multifunctional use of the living space. Features such as the low-level area at the end of the sink run leading towards the garden along with open shelves and the colour selected for the dressings emphasised the softer, relaxed open-plan heart of the home.
