Green Kitchen: Design Ideas, Advice & Inspiration

The colour green is associated with nature and powerful feelings of life, renewal and health. Green is a popular choice for the home, especially the kitchen. In this article, you will discover green kitchen inspiration, ideas and advice to inspire your green kitchen design.

Choosing the Right Shade of Green for Your Kitchen

The first step in creating the green kitchen of your dreams is to find the right shade for your look. There are no specific rules when choosing shades of green for a kitchen. However, certain green hues work better with certain styles. Different shades of green evoke different feelings in the kitchen.

Dark Green Kitchens and Grey-Green Kitchens

Dark green shades create a sense of depth and drama whilst also adding warmth. To stay within a more neutral palette, use dark greens with grey undertones. Dark inky greens are similar to classic blue and the perfect shade for heritage kitchens with a timeless look.

Dark green kitchen cabinets pair well with marble worktops or splashbacks and warm mixed metals such as copper and brass. Dark greens work well with vintage furniture pieces, classic shaker cabinetry and designs with industrial elements.

When choosing dark green kitchen cabinets, consider the available natural and artificial lighting in the room. For smaller kitchens, darker greens make the room feel smaller and cavernous. This can be positive or negative depending on the atmosphere you’re aiming for.

Darker greys, blues and greens work well in monochromatic designs which use variations of a single colour. Painting your kitchen walls and ceiling in the same colour green as your kitchen cabinets can make the room appear larger. This one-colour look has become very popular.

Vibrant Green Kitchens

Vibrant greens such as jade, pistachio and lime add a bold pop of colour to a kitchen. Brighter greens used in large areas can be overwhelming but it all depends on your personal taste.

If you’re feeling bold, embrace one of these shades and go big. Alternatively, you can use these colours as features to add green to your kitchen in a more subtle way. Accessories, tiles, splashbacks and wallpaper are all great ways to inject these vibrant green hues into a kitchen.

To add green to your existing kitchen, you could opt for an exotic green botanical wallpaper. These designs pair wonderfully with contemporary kitchen designs that have a neutral colour palette. With more vibrant green kitchens consider using natural materials such as stone, linens and woods like bamboo.

Vibrant greens such as Jade or Lime also work well in kitchens that use colour-blocking. Colour blocking is pairs of two or more colours together. Kitchen designs usually use contrasting cabinets, worktops and wall colours to create depth. For example, colours like lime greens pair well with white or dark grey cabinetry.

For those not afraid of colour, why not pair a vibrant green with another colour? Remember to choose colours that are opposite on the colour wheel. For example, jade green and pastel pink create a contrasting yet harmonious palette that is vibrant yet inoffensive. Green is an incredibly versatile colour no matter what shade your choose for your kitchen.
