A Modernised Family Kitchen for a Surrey Home

After 15 years in their home, the family decided to refresh and modernise their kitchen. The original KCA-designed kitchen, installed for the property’s previous owners, had served its purpose but no longer suited their requirements or taste. Confident in the quality of their previous kitchen, the clients returned to KCA to create a new design tailored to their evolving needs and interior style.

The aim was to deliver a kitchen that blended exceptional modern aesthetics with everyday functionality. While the original layout was practical, the family wanted to improve key elements. They sought more preparation space on the island, a redesigned breakfast bar to enhance flow, and a more convenient fridge-freezer placement. Updating the finishes was also a priority, bringing a fresh, contemporary look to the space.

Building on the existing layout, KCA introduced thoughtful updates to transform the new kitchen. The tall bank of cabinetry at the kitchen entrance was extended by blocking an unused external door, creating a sleek feature wall. This reconfigured section now houses the American fridge-freezer, pantry, ovens, and a worktop larder, keeping everything organised. Utility items like the boiler and CCTV system were carefully concealed to maintain a clean, modern appearance.

The island was redesigned and enlarged as the kitchen’s focal point, combining style and practicality. The new island design includes deep drawers for pots, pans, and crockery, while a centrally positioned vented hob provides ample preparation and serving space.

The sink remains under the window, with the dishwasher and bin on either side, making cleaning up practical. The wine cooler is positioned at the end of the run to serve the adjacent dining area. We repositioned and staggered the breakfast bar, creating elevated seating better suited for casual dining and enhancing the room’s flow. This design adjustment also ensured clear sightlines to the television, perfect for family life and entertaining.

Every inch of the space is designed to maximise both functionality and elegance. A LeMans corner unit improves access to previously unused storage, while additional cabinetry on the back of the island provides convenient space for items used less frequently. A custom-designed pantry cupboard offers storage for dry goods and pantry staples, while also accommodating larger countertop appliances like the air fryer and mixer. This keeps the kitchen organised and clutter-free, with easy access to both everyday essentials and bulkier items.

The updated design features sleek flat-panel cabinetry in Graphite Satin Lacquer and Putty Concrete Graphite, creating depth and a modern, moody feel. Light grey Silestone Desert Silver worktops brighten the room and reflect light, creating a striking contrast against the darker tones. The Graphite handless rails and graphite bar handles add the perfect finishing touch to the contemporary aesthetic. The result is a space that feels both contemporary and inviting.

This refreshed kitchen perfectly reflects the family’s lifestyle and design aspirations. By addressing their needs with thoughtful solutions, KCA has delivered a beautiful and functional space they will enjoy for years to come.
